The WaldWelten Foundation is a joint foundation of the City of Eberswalde and the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde HNEE (FH) . The foundation was established on June 24, 2010 and recognized as a non-profit foundation under civil law on October 22, 2010 by the Ministry of the Interior of the State of Brandenburg . In accordance with foundation law and the statutes, the foundation is purely oriented towards the common good and does not pursue any commercial interests. The foundation bodies are the foundation council and the executive board, which are supported by a full-time managing director. The WaldWelten Foundation has 140 hectares of forest in the south of the city of Eberswalde, between Schwappachweg on the outskirts and Spechthausen. The arboretum of the state of Brandenburg is gradually being built on the area.

Foundation purpose

The purpose of the foundation is to promote forest and ecology-related science and research, public environmental education and environmental education, art and culture as well as nature conservation. In accordance with the statutory objectives, the foundation's work is divided into three areas, ErlebnisWelt, KulturWelt and WissenschaftsWelt.

Adventure world

In the ErlebnisWelt area, non-commercial, nationwide children's and youth environmental education programs are offered. The aim is to convey the value of the forest ecosystem and nature as well as biological diversity ( biodiversity ). The approach of education for sustainable development plays a central role. For a special environmental education program called Blickwinkel - Inklusion macht Schule, in which disabled and non-disabled children can experience and understand nature together, the WaldWelten Foundation, together with a special education school, was the official project of the World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2013/2014 UNESCO awarded.

KulturWelt

In the area of KulturWelt, the WaldWelten Foundation deals with the interplay between forest and culture . Here, cultural events such as plays, music and dance as well as lectures on the history of forest use or indigenous peoples are specifically promoted.

ScienceWorld

In the coming years the arboretum of the state of Brandenburg will be built on the foundation area. In contrast to botanical gardens, which only show individual species, entire forest communities have been planted since 2011. This includes not only the corresponding tree species, but also the associated herb and shrub layer. All plantings are scientifically accompanied with the aim of climate impact research for forests. In the forest area of Barnim northeast of Berlin, research is to be carried out into the consequences of the predicted climate change for the Brandenburg trees. Part of the FFH area Nonnenfließ-Schwärzetal, which is dedicated to the protection of native nature, also belongs to the foundation area.
