The Zanders Foundation is a collection of paper history in Bergisch Gladbach , Hauptstrasse 267. It was founded on April 18, 1977 by the paper manufacturer Johann Wilhelm Zanders . The certificate of approval from the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia for the establishment of the Zanders Foundation - Paper History Collection was dated May 23, 1977. It is a private law foundation .

Object of the foundation

According to §2 of the foundation statutes, its purpose is to collect, organize, preserve and evaluate the material on paper history, especially for scientific purposes . In terms of content, the Zanders Foundation essentially consists of the archive of the Zanders paper factory , the Zanders family archive , the actual paper history collection with over 400 old ladle screens , around 1000 paper samples and around 2000 historical watermark papers . Various other collections such as historical photos from 1843 and postcards as well as books on Zander hand-made paper complete the collection. Since 1989, the inventory has been structured as follows:

The building

In 1876 Maria Zanders had the house at Hauptstrasse 269 built, which today houses the Altenberg Cathedral Association . In 1900/1901 her son Hans Wilhelm Zanders initiated the expansion to include the house at Hauptstrasse 267. In the years that followed, various members of the Zanders family lived there. The tax office was temporarily housed here. In 1982, both houses were entered as a total object under No. 3 as a monument in the list of monuments of the city of Bergisch Gladbach.

The building has been listed as an architectural monument under serial no. 3 since February 24, 1982 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
