Hans Wilhelm Zanders (born November 8, 1861 in Bergisch Gladbach ; † May 19, 1915 there ) was a German paper manufacturer .

Life

Hans Wilhelm Zanders was a son of Carl Richard Zanders and Maria Zanders . He had a good relationship with his brother Richard Zanders and like him studied at the University of Bonn. In 1882 he became a member of the Corps Hansea . On February 1, 1893, he married his wife Olga , b. Peltzer , daughter of the cloth manufacturer Paul Nicolas Édouard Peltzer . From this marriage there were six children. Zanders died early at the age of 53 of pneumonia .

The paper manufacturer

From 1884 to 1885 he gained experience in a total of 22 paper mills in the United States, particularly in the state of Massachusetts . His thirst for education in art and folk life also led him to Asia Minor and Egypt , where he especially visited customers and found new customers in order to consolidate and expand the sales opportunities of his paper mill.

Together with his brother Richard, he continuously expanded the JW Zanders company from 1886. Building land was bought in the vicinity of the Schnabelsmühle and the factory area was expanded to 30 hectares in 1906. During his time, a water pipe was built in the headwaters of the Strund valley and a deep well was built to meet the need for water for paper production to secure. From 1904 both of them took over the neighboring Gohrsmühle and expanded it into a new factory. Zanders always pursued the further expansion of the company with modern machines and facilities.

Merits

Zanders was the city councilor of Bergisch Gladbach and presbyter of the evangelical parish. As chairman of the Altenberg Cathedral Association , he promoted replicas of the old choir stalls and the installation of a new organ in Altenberg Cathedral . He donated the gym of the Progymnasium to the city of Bergisch Gladbach and, together with his sister-in-law Anna Zanders, the indoor swimming pool.

Honors

  • The city of Bergisch Gladbach dedicated Hans-Zanders-Strasse to him in the city ​​center as early as 1921 .
