Stumbling blocks in the Braunau am Inn district
The list of stumbling blocks in the Braunau am Inn district contains those stumbling blocks that were laid by the Cologne artist Gunter Demnig between 1996 and 2015. A total of around 50,000 stumbling blocks were laid in memory of victims of National Socialism .
Laying the stumbling blocks
The KNIE art initiative invited Demnig to Oberndorf near Salzburg in 1997 . After the Stolpersteine laid for Jehovah's Witnesses Johann and Matthias Nobis in Sankt Georgen near Salzburg were unintentionally destroyed, the Innsbruck political scientist Andreas Maislinger invited Gunter Demnig to renew the stones and lay further Stolpersteine in the neighboring district of Braunau am Inn .
On August 11 and 12, 2006, he laid eleven stumbling blocks in eight communities in the Braunau am Inn district . The stones lie in the ground in front of the former homes of victims of National Socialism.
Braunau am Inn
Three stumbling blocks remind of Jehovah's Witness Anna Sax and two more of the communists and socialists Franz Amberger and Adolf Wenger, all from Braunau am Inn . A fourth stone was laid in memory of Michael Nimmerfahl, who was murdered in Gestapo custody.
Moosdorf
The two stumbling blocks in Hackenbuch / Moosdorf were relocated in memory of the socialists and communists Johann Lenz and Josef Weber.
St. Radegund
The memorial stone in St. Radegund was moved in memory of the conscientious objector Franz Jägerstätter who was murdered in the Brandenburg prison.
St. Pantaleon
In the municipality St.Pantaleon 2011 8 stumbling blocks were immediately before the camp area of labor reformatory and Gypsy Detention Camp St. Pantaleon-Weyer laid. Two give a brief general explanation of what happened here, six are, representing hundreds of victims, dedicated to small children who died or were born in Weyer and who later died violently in occupied Poland.
