Tamping density

The stuffing density is a physical quantity that describes the mass distribution of compressible media. The quotient of the mass and the measured volume , which in a certain way with a standard force occupies compressed molding composition:

The tamping density is used for all technical textiles ( fiber and fiber composite materials , such as darning wool ) as well as for foams in thermal or vibration insulation . Typical packing densities of thermal insulation materials used in construction are between 50 and 200 kg / m³ or between 0.05 and 0.2 g / cm³.

A device for measuring the plug density consists of a measuring cylinder with a capacity of 1000 cm³, which is filled with 60 g of mass. Then a piston of a defined mass (e.g. 2300 g) is placed on which there is a scale . After a waiting time of one minute, the measured value in g / cm³ can be read off directly.
