Stopfenreuth is a village in the market town of Engelhartstetten in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria .

location

Stopfenreuth is located in the southern Marchfeld on the edge of the Donauauen.

history

A so-called "desolate castle" is located east of the village and shows wall sections from the Roman Empire, presumably the corner of a bridgehead fort on Bernsteinstrasse .

Documented in 1288, the place was an important crossing over the Danube . After the floods in 1658, a new north-south oriented baroque village complex was built. A remnant of the original settlement is recognizable as a riverside village at the southern exit of the village.

In December 1984 the Hainburger Au was occupied near Stophenreuth with the effect of the foundation of the Donau-Auen National Park .

Building

The Breitstrasse village was given a closed, single-storey building, mostly on the eaves. There are Zwerchhöfe, isolated street front houses, some with longitudinal arbors.
