Heinsberg study

From March 2020, a research team led by Hendrik Streeck carried out the COVID-19 case cluster study in Heinsberg . The study was accompanied by close-knit PR work by Storymachine on Facebook and Twitter . This approach led to widespread criticism in the media, as the reports from Storymachine gave the impression that measures should be taken to ease the restrictions on the COVID-19 pandemic before the study results were available . For this purpose, scientific findings were published before a usual peer review. Julia Wandt from the Federal Association of University Communication criticized the fact that Storymachine had approached Streeck on its own initiative. Mronz explained this with the fact that he and Streeck had been known for a long time. The SPD politician Sarah Philipp criticized this constellation as an “unfair competitive advantage” because Streeck had awarded the contract to Mronz. Mronz rejected the criticism. The science journalist Joachim Müller-Jung commented that Streeck had given a technically completely unskilled marketing agency "Propaganda-Prokura". The German Council for Public Relations (DRPR) examines the role of the agency for possible violations of the transparency requirement. Storymachine had her lawyer explain that there were no violations of the transparency requirement. In addition, Storymachine is not a PR agency, so the DRPR is not responsible.
