Stoupa village in Greece.JPG

Stoupa ( Greek Στούπα ( f. Sg. )) Is a village in the local community Neochori in the municipality of Lefktro in the municipality of Dytiki elS in the Greek region of Peloponnese .

The former fishing village has become a place mainly focused on tourism (with a slightly "alternative" touch) in the last few decades . In the district of Kalogria there is one of the relatively rare fine sandy beaches in Greece. A bust of the poet commemorates Kazantzakis' stay in Stoupa.

The village served the poet Nikos Kazantzakis as a template for the novel Alexis Zorbas . Kazantzakis tried to start coal mining here in 1917, his foreman was called Zorbas, but in the literary adaptation of this failed experiment, Kazantzakis moved the action to Crete.
