Swedish Radiation Safety Authority

Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (Swedish: Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten ) is the Swedish authority for radiation protection and safety in nuclear energy .

The Authority is working proactively and preventively to improve continuously to radiation protection and the safety of people and the environment from the effects of nuclear energy and nuclear proliferation ( NPT to reduce / Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty). For this purpose, active international cooperation and documentation is carried out to exchange knowledge and experience (e.g. in reports): At the UN with the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA , the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effect of Atomic Radiation UNSCEAR and the World Health Organization WHO continue to work with the Nuclear Energy Agency NEA of the OECD and the International Commission on Radiological Protection, ICRP .

The authority, which is subordinate to the Ministry of the Environment, emerged in 2008 from the now dissolved Statens kärnkraftinspektion and is based in Stockholm . It has a budget of around 400 million crowns a year and almost 300 employees. The agency is headed by Mats Persson , Director General appointed by the Swedish government .
