The Straße der Sieger was launched in 1990 and for almost 25 years was a section of Mariahilfer Straße in Vienna , on which hand and footprints of Austrian and international athletes were laid, following the example of the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles . Over 170 Austrian and international world and Olympic champions had already immortalized themselves on this road.

The prints were on the south-facing sidewalk of the inner Mariahilfer Straße between the Gürtel and Zweierlinie . The initiative to set it up came from the Generali Center.

In the course of the redesign of Mariahilfer Strasse by the Vienna city government , the plates with the prints were removed and most of them auctioned off by Österreichische Sporthilfe at the end of 2017. However, just a few months later, Sporthilfe brought the world's largest sports “Walk of Fame” back to life and immortalized the two successful winter athletes Marcel Hirscher (alpine skiing) and Anna Gasser (snowboard) at the Sporthilfe Gala 2018 for the first time in a new look .

With the multiple Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton as well as Andreas Prommegger (snowboard) and the ski athletes Felix Neureuther and Claudia Lösch , further impressions followed in 2019. In future, the prints will be on display in highly frequented places and locations all over Austria.
