The Botoşani tram was the tram system of the city of Botoşani (Eng. Botoshan ) in northeast Romania . Botoșani has about 115,000 inhabitants and has had a tram system since 1991. After 29 years the company was shut down.
history
In the course of the political promotion of electric transport by the then socialist government under Nicolae Ceaușescu , seven new tram systems went into operation: in Constanța (1984), in Brașov , Craiova , Cluj-Napoca and Ploiești (1987), in Reșița (1988) and in Botoșani . The decision to build a tram in Botoșani was made in 1988. The first route of the tram was opened on September 6, 1991 with line number 101. The second route from the train station to Strada Primăverii began operation on November 10, 1993 and was used by line 102. For financial reasons, an originally planned further extension of the tram routes was abandoned. The depot is located near the Fabrică de mobilă end loop .
Lines
Line 101 ran through the city in an east-west direction, from the industrial area to the city center. Line 102 first ran from the eastern terminus on the same route as 101 and then branched off at the train station (Gară) approximately in the middle of the route in a southerly direction. It connected the industrial area with a densely populated district without touching the city center.
line | Line route | length |
---|---|---|
101 | Fabrică de mobilă ↔ Gară ↔ Luceafărul | 5.7 km |
102 | Fabrică de mobilă ↔ Gară ↔ Primăverii | 4.6 km |
Former plans
The turning loop at the junction of the two branches at the station should be put back into operation so that line 102 could only run on the Gáră - Primăverii section during the low-traffic period .
vehicles
The first tram cars were delivered in 1990. These were type V3A cars from Romanian production, with the car numbers 1 to 10. Before the opening of the second line, six more V3A from the Cluj-Napoca tram were added, which were given the numbers 11 to 16.
In 2001 and 2002 the Romanian cars were replaced by used Tatra T4D vehicles from Dresden . Two of these cars were bidirectional vehicles, but they have both been scrapped. In addition, Tatra T4D from Magdeburg came to Botoșani, but they have also been scrapped up to now. In 2009, the procurement of 15 more used trams from Germany at a price of 350,000 euros was planned. In April 2011, eleven Tatra T4D-MT trams were delivered from Dresden.
