The Brăila tram is the tram system in the eastern Romanian city of Brăila , a district town with around 210,000 inhabitants on the banks of the Danube .
A horse-drawn tram has operated in Brăila since 1886 . Brăila has owned an electric tram since 1900, making it one of the first Romanian cities to use this mode of transport alongside Galați and Iași . The network covers a route length of 22.3 kilometers with a track width of 1435 millimeters ( standard gauge ).
Lines
Up to five tram lines operate in the city of Brăila. Lines 21 and 22 connect the Vidin district in the north with Radu Negru in the south. In the city center, however, both run over different routes. From the route of line 22, a branch branches off in a north-westerly direction to the Chercea district, which is served by line 23. The city's train station is not served by the tram, the nearest stop is on line 23. The southern terminus of lines 21 to 23 is connected to an overland route that leads via the Salt Lake recreation area (Lacu Sarat) to the industrial complex in Chiscani.
In 2010, the renovation of the Bulevardul Dorobanților, which was used by line 22, began, which is why tram traffic there was suspended for three years. The overland route was also renovated. Further track construction work meant that tram traffic in Brăila was completely stopped in June 2012. In September 2012, a combination line 21/22 was in operation, as the bridge over the railway on the route to Vidin is closed until the end of 2013 due to renovation work. The northern depot is not connected to the grid for that long. The eastern inner-city route on Bulevardul Independenției has now been completely renovated.

In the period before the Romanian Revolution, mainly Timiș 2 wagons ran in Brăila, 58 of which were made up of railcars and sidecars in several series between 1975 and 1990 by Eltim in Timișoara for Brăila. Since August 2005, these cars are no longer in operation as planned.
In 1978 Brăila received ten T4R cars from the Czechoslovak manufacturer ČKD Tatra , which were originally intended for the tram in the neighboring town of Galați .
In the late 1980s, the vehicle park was expanded to include articulated railcars of types V2A and V3A , which were manufactured by the main workshop of the Bucharest tram .
The first Western European used vehicles came from the Nuremberg tram to Brăila in 1997 . The delivery comprised ten T4 railcars , which were built by MAN between 1958 and 1960 . One of these was converted into a work car. More than half had been parked by 2013.
1997 and 1998 also came 20 Tatra cars of the type KT4D from the Tramway Berlin , produced between 1977 and 1979, according to Braila. Almost all of them are still operational in 2013.
The next tranche of ten used vehicles came from the Netherlands in 2005, from the Rotterdam tram . The Duewag articulated trolleys from 1968 are still fully in use.
The first Austrian carriages came to Brăila from the Vienna tram from October 2008 to May 2009 . These were type E 1 cars . These licensed Duewag articulated wagons were built by Simmering-Graz-Pauker from 1966 to 1968 . Another nine vehicles of the Graz tram followed in 2016 (type 260 - also a Duewag licensed construction - and 580, the latter is a 260 that was extended with a former central section from Wuppertal ).
As of April 8, 2020, the following 34 trams were operational in Brăila.
