The Darmstadt-Kranichstein Tram Museum (officially: Tram depot for historic vehicles ) is a tram museum opened in Darmstadt-Kranichstein in 2012 . It is located in the turning loop of the final stop at Darmstadt-Kranichstein station on the Rhein-Main-Bahn ( Darmstadt - Aschaffenburg ). The tram depot is part of the Route of Industrial Heritage .

Exhibition and vehicles in use

Exhibits from the Darmstadt tram from 1886 onwards are shown on around 1,000 square meters of exhibition space . The oldest tram vehicle is an ST2 electric tram from 1913 . The youngest tram vehicle is an ST11 (TW 8210) electric tram from 1982 . Several times a year the museum tram runs with vehicles from the museum on the Darmstadt tram network .

Varia

For building law reasons, no museum is possible at the current location; therefore the tram depot for historic vehicles is open a maximum of four times a year.

For logistical reasons, the Feuriger Elias steam tram is not stationed in the depot in Kranichstein; but in the depot at the Frankenstein stop in Darmstadt-Eberstadt .

history

The initiative for the establishment of a tram museum came from the Railway Museum Darmstadt-Kranichstein , which proposed in 1996 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the electric tram in 1997 with steam trams. These were in use in Darmstadt from 1886 to 1922. Soon the desire arose to also preserve historical electric vehicles, so that in 1998 the ARGE (“Working Group on Historic HEAG Vehicles in the Railway Museum Darmstadt-Kranichstein eV”) was established.
