Tram route Merseburg – Müuellen

The Merseburg-Müuellen tram line was a meter-gauge interurban tram built in Saxony-Anhalt between 1913 and 1918 . It connected the city of Merseburg via Kötzschen , Beuna, Frankleben , Naundorf, Neumark and Lützkendorf with Müelte in the Geiseltal and was 17.2 kilometers long. The line was built and operated by the Merseburger Überlandbahn AG . The route was part of the regional tram network between Halle (Saale) , Merseburg, Müchi and later Bad Dürrenberg. A larger network - the Merseburger Überlandbahnen - was planned, but was never implemented.

As early as 1922 to 1924, due to the lignite mining in the Geiseltal, the first track relocations on the Merseburg – Müuellen line were necessary. As a result of the considerable expansion of the open-cast mine, the Merseburg – Müuellen line was gradually closed and dismantled from 1957. Since 1968 there is only a small remaining section, which is now part of the Halle-Ammendorf-Bad Dürrenberg tram route .
