The Stradbally Woodland Railway is a 0.4 km long single-track narrow gauge railway with a track width of 3 feet (914 mm) in the park of Stradbally Hall in Stradbally , County Laois in Ireland .

location

The railway line runs through the high walled park area of Stradbally Hall just to the right of the remote entrance gate at the Stradbally Fire Station . The railway line operates on Sunday and Monday of bank holiday weekends from Easter to October, as well as on special occasions. On other days it can only be visited by appointment because of the high walls.

history

The narrow gauge railway is one of Ireland's oldest museum railways and is operated by the non-profit Irish Steam Preservation Society . It was built gradually on a voluntary basis from 1969 to 1982.
