action

The Iranian Hossein Yazdi came to the GDR in 1954 as a staunch communist to study agricultural science. He soon saw through the thesis of the great socialist achievements and felt repulsed by socialism. He began to spy on the Iranian communists in exile living in the GDR and was arrested as part of this activity on October 26, 1961 at the Checkpoint Charlie checkpoint . After pre-trial detention in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, solitary confinement followed for more than a decade in the Stasi special detention center in Bautzen II .

Due to an intervention by the Shah on the occasion of a deal between the GDR and Iran, Hossein Yazdi regained freedom after 15.5 years.
