Strauss Quartet

The Strauss Quartet was a chamber music ensemble that worked primarily in the Ruhr area and Switzerland from 1957 to the 1980s .

The name of the quartet goes back to the brothers Ulrich and Ernest (also Ernst) Strauss, which for many years primarily performed in the Folkwang Museum in Essen . Participants were Ulrich Strauss (violin 1), Helmuth Hoever (violin 2), Konrad Grahe (viola) and Ernest Strauss (violoncello).

The Strauss Quartet presented its first program on March 8, 1957. It was active in the original line-up for around 25 years. Time and again, other musicians joined in for the performance of larger-scale works.

The composers presented by the Strauss Quartet include Conrad Beck , Ludwig van Beethoven , Alban Berg , Johannes Brahms , Joseph Haydn , Arthur Honegger , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Sergej Prokofjew , Max Reger , Othmar Schoeck , Franz Schubert , Robert Schumann and Carl Maria von Weber .

Awards

In 1962 the quartet received the North Rhine-Westphalia sponsorship award for young artists .
