action

prehistory

The Japanese Ryu lives on the island of Mikunai and receives a letter from his old friend and former training partner Ken Masters inviting him to the USA. Ken lives with his parents in San Francisco and impresses Ryu with the wealth of the family. The two 17-year-olds visit Mt. Fuji , a pub that is often visited by the US military . There Ken provokes an argument with some soldiers who succumb to him and Ryu in the following brawl. After the arrival of their commander, Sergeant Guile, a fight breaks out between him and Ryu. Guile defeats Ryu and Ken challenges the sergeant at the airbase the following day. He also loses to Guile, but is impressed by his fighting style. Ken suggests a trip around the world to Ryu to meet other "street fighters" and so improve their martial arts and techniques in the battles.

The training journey

In Hong Kong they meet 15-year-old Chun Li, whose father Dorai runs a famous dojo and is the chief of police. After the three of them stir up some gangs in the Kowloon Palace, an area in Hong Kong that has been cordoned off for criminals, Ken has the chance to compete with the famous actor Fei Long the next day. While Ken and Chun Li shop, Ryu meets an old Chinese man who uses an ancient fighting technique in his presence to heal himself. From him Ryu learns the meaning of Ki , but fails in the practice of this technique of bundling the energies from the environment and then using it in a variety of ways. In addition, they are attacked by people of the Ashura, a mafia gang.

In Thailand, Ryu and Ken intend to learn the martial art of Muay Thai . At the airport, Ryu is drugged by the Ashura and he goes to prison, where he meets the legendary Muay Thai champion Sagat. While Ryu has to bite through there, Ken uses the power and money of his father to pull out all the stops to free Ryu and, at his request, Sagat. This refers the two of them to India, where they are supposed to find a mysterious monk named Dhalsim, who is familiar with the art of Hadou .

After a few detours, the two reach Dhalsim, who however refuses to teach them the hadou until they have conquered the beasts within. He presents them with a hard, spiritual test, which they just survive alive. After the two Dhalsim's village helped to get rid of a gang of thieves, however, the latter agreed to help them. Dhalsim masters the Hadou for "purification and healing", one of the seven Hadou. In the fundamental attempt to bundle his energies, the technique of Hadou-Ken awakens in Ryu, a technique that enables him to use an energy beam of pure energy as a martial art.

Shadowlaw

From India, the two travel to Spain with Chun Li and Dorai, who is traveling to an international meeting, where they meet the psychopathic torero Vega. Vega seduces Chun Li, who goes to an evening VIP party with Ken, which however develops into a "cage deathmatch" between Ken and Vega, which both survive only unconscious and badly wounded. When the two are transported away with Chun Li, Bison, the master of Shadowlaw , reveals himself to a criminal organization. He has a fight with Chun Li, which he only sees as a game and which she cannot possibly win. Meanwhile, Ryu is practicing Hadou-Ken alone on the beach. When Bison notices this on his way to the Cage Match , he has Zangief capture him. Arriving at Bison's secret island area, where Ken and Chun Li are also being held, Bison engages in a fight with Ryu in which he measures his psychological power with Ryus Hadou-Ken.

Chun Li's father is classified as dangerous at the highest level by Balrog, a Shadowlaw agent. He then hires the hit man Cammy White to kill him, which she seems to succeed. Meanwhile, Fei Long travels to Spain to make a new film. At the airport, he learns from the news that Dorai has died and immediately goes to the hospital. There he learns that Dorai was the victim of an assassination attempt and barely survived. For security reasons, Dorai's survival is kept a secret, so that the masterminds behind the attack can be found. Balrog informs Cammy that Dorai survived and she goes to the hospital to finish her assignment. There she is attacked by Fei Long, who is defending the life of Dorei. When Cammy realizes she was being used by Shadowlaw, she spares Dorai and instead attacks Balrog, almost killing him. Before he dies, she lets go of him and hands Balrog over to Fei Long. Meanwhile, Bison has made a huge ransom demand on Ken's father that would drive him to bankruptcy. However, his old school friend is now head of the CIA, who hires Sergeant Guile and his partner Nash to find out about Bison's secret hiding place and to try to free Ken and Ryu.

Bison has developed a chip that enables him to control the mind and thus the body of people and to increase that person's powers. Chun Li and Ryu become his test subjects. Meanwhile, Ken gains control over the art of Hadou and develops his Hadou Sho Ryu . He uses this attack to free himself and searches for Chun Li, but has to face off against his controlled friend Ryu. The collision between the two Hadous destroys the chip and together they look for bison. Meanwhile, Nash and Guile have also arrived. However, while Guile is fighting Zangief, Nash is murdered by Bison. Before Bison can kill Guile, he learns about Ryu and goes to see him while he orders Chun Li to kill Guile. Ken and Ryu finally fight together against Bison, who has enormous supernatural powers based on a mysterious eagle's head, which he integrates into his fighting technique. The two of them finally succeed in destroying Bison and with him Shadowlaw through the clash of bison's forces and the power of Hadou.

Origin from the games

Capcom released numerous Street Fighter II console games over the years, establishing fixed characters that were constantly expanded. Each character was given a nationality and a personal background. The content of the games is to defeat your opponent with different martial arts and some supernatural special attacks, depending on the character.

Based on this, the anime films Street Fighter II - The Animated Movie , Street Fighter Zero , Street Fighter Zero 2 and the anime series Street Fighter II V were developed.

Production and publication

The 29-episode series was produced by Group TAC in 1995 under the direction of Gisaburô Sugii. Kenichi Imai came up with the idea and Junichiro Nishikawa took over the artistic direction. The anime aired from April 10 to November 27, 1995 on the Japanese television network Yomiuri TV .

The anime was shown on television in Portuguese in Brazil. An English version of the series has been broadcast on multiple networks and released on DVD in the UK and Australia. Other broadcasts were in Spanish, French, Italian and Tagalog .

The Japanese original version was released by ACOG on VHS with German subtitles. It was broadcast by VOX , which edited the individual episodes into several films.
