history

The Orthopedic Frame Company , predecessor of Stryker Corporation, was founded on February 20, 1946 by Homer Stryker (1894-1980). It was not until 1964 that the company name was officially changed to Stryker Corporation . Lee Stryker, the son of the company's founder, Homer, became president in 1969. He was killed in a plane crash in 1976; he was succeeded by John W. Brown. In 1979 Stryker went public ( NASDAQ ) and shortly thereafter gained access to the orthopedic implants market by purchasing the Osteonics Corporation . In 1985 annual sales reached US $ 100 million for the first time. Stryker has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 1997 . In 1998 Leibinger , a German manufacturer of titanium plates for oral and maxillofacial surgery was taken over. Stephen P. MacMillan replaced John Brown as President and CEO in 2005, who took over the chairmanship of the board of directors. In 2014 Stryker took over and integrated the German company Berchtold with its main product operating theater lights.
