The cave Studnia w Mnichu is a cavity in the east wall of Mnich in the valley Dolina Rybiego Potoku in the Polish Tatra Mountains . It is the longest known cave on the Polish side of the High Tatras.
Location and description
The cave is about 60 meters long and about 23 meters deep. It has three openings at an altitude of 1908 m , 1900 m and 1893 m npm . The cave is located near a climbing route on the Mnich and has therefore been known for a long time. It was described in 1909 by Władysław Kulczyński and Mieczysław Świerz .
etymology
The name Studnia w Mnichu can be translated as monk's fountain .
tourism
There is no hiking trail to the cave, but it is on a popular climbing route to the summit of the Mnich. A permit from the administration of the Tatra National Park is required to climb the Mnich and enter the cave .
