Sturgill Simpson
Sturgill Simpson (born June 8, 1978 in Jackson , Kentucky ) is an American traditional country musician .
Career
Sturgill Simpson began his musical career with the band Sunday Valley , which existed from 2004 to 2011. He then began a solo career and worked on his debut album. High Top Mountain was released in 2013, it was a moderate success in the country charts and established him as a musician in the genre in the tradition of Waylon Jennings . On his second album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music , he worked with producer Dave Cobb. He reached the top 10 of the country charts and also placed in the official album charts . At the Americana Music Awards he was recognized as a newcomer in 2014 and as best musician in 2015. The album received a Grammy nomination in the Americana category.
This time, Simpson took two years until his next album. The concept album A Sailor's Guide to Earth was his first release on the major label Atlantic and entered the country charts at number 1 and number 3 on the sales charts in April 2016. It was also able to place itself in the charts abroad. At the Grammy Awards 2017 it was named Country Album of the Year, and it was also nominated in the main category "Album of the Year".
In 2019, Sturgill Simpson released the single "The Dead Don't Die", the title track for the film of the same name by Jim Jarmusch .
