Sturmgeist is an experimental Norwegian Thrash and Progressive Metal band. Sturmgeist was founded in 2002 as a solo project by the Norwegian musician and poet Cornelius von Jakhelln; the group now consists of three musicians. Jakhelln was also a founding member of the Norwegian avant-garde black metal band Solefald . Cornelius von Jakhelln describes Sturmgeist's music as "grim, Germanic Thrash" .

It is remarkable that the lyrics of the band are written in Norwegian , English or German . These can on the one hand be sophisticated (e.g. the setting of Goethe's “Erlkönig” to Master Mephisto ), on the other hand there are also tongue-in-cheek texts (e.g. a declaration of love to the herbal liqueur Jägermeister ). Most of the songs, however, are about Germanic mythology , war and poetry.

On November 7, 2007, an 18-year-old gunman in Finland killed eight people in the Jokela school massacre . Since he referred to himself as "Sturmgeist89", some journalists turned to Cornelius von Jakhelln to question possible connections. Cornelius von Jakhelln reacted with dismay and condemned the act of violence.
