history

Fire brigade socket in 2012

The original Sommerrain settlement was built between 1932 and 1935. It was named after an old field name.

On March 1, 1935, the Sommerrain extinguishing group, now the Sommerrain Volunteer Fire Brigade , was founded by eight men.

When the city of Stuttgart was divided into city districts in 1956, the Sommerrain district was combined with the Burgholzhof , Steinhaldenfeld and Bad Cannstatt districts to form the Bad Cannstatt district.

At the end of the 1970s, work began on the Auf der Gans residential area . Today you can still see the difference between Alt-Sommerrain and Auf der Gans : While the original part of the settlement is still mostly smaller single-family houses, multi-storey new buildings dominate the edge of the Sommerrain.

When the Stuttgart districts were restructured on January 1, 2001, the Sommerrain district was not changed. At the end of 2000, the Sommerrain still had a total of around 3300 inhabitants, at the end of 2011 there were only just under 3100 inhabitants.

The biggest festival in town is the fire brigade Hocketse , which takes place annually at the beginning of July and up to 1,000 guests are counted.

Since the U2 light rail line was extended to Neugereut in the summer of 2005, the 54 bus line has only served the Sommerrain during rush hour . As a replacement, line 58 also runs in off-peak and off-peak hours to the final stop at the S-Bahn station. Furthermore, there are other bus stops on the 58 line on the northern edge of the village, which continues to Fellbach- Schmiden.
