Stuttgart Spring Festival
The Stuttgart Spring Festival (also known colloquially as Cannstatter Wasen or Wasen ) is a folk festival that takes place between mid-April and early May at the Cannstatter Wasen in the Stuttgart district of Bad Cannstatt . It is the largest spring festival in Europe. In terms of area, it is smaller than the autumnal Cannstatter Volksfest (and is therefore sometimes referred to as the “Kleiner Wasen”), but has lasted three weeks since the mid-1990s because of the increased weather risk. At the Stuttgart Spring Festival you can often experience newly developed ride attractions.
According to the organizer, the 80th Stuttgart Spring Festival in 2018, which lasted from April 21 to May 13, set a new record with 1.6 million visitors. The Spring Festival 2020 was canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic 5 ½ weeks before the planned start.
Attractions
In contrast to the Cannstatter Volksfest, there is usually a looping roller coaster at the Stuttgart Spring Festival, but only the slightly smaller 55 meter Ferris wheel is set up. Since the loop roller coaster was sold in 2008, the Alpina Bahn was located at the location in 2009 , the double loop roller coaster test track in 2010 and the Olympia loop in 2011 . The latter is the largest transportable five-person loop in the world. In 2011 the Rocket ride had its premiere. The Stuttgart Spring Festival opens on Saturdays with the First Mayor tapping the keg .
Fruit column and city jug
The fruit column used to be absent for the Stuttgart Spring Festival . From 1995 onwards it was seen for the first time at the Stuttgart Spring Festival, when it was allowed to stand on the fairground all year round on a trial basis for cost reasons. This measure has been abandoned in recent years and the fruit column is dismantled after the end of the Cannstatter Volksfest in autumn, but the substructure is left standing. During the spring festival, since the fruit column is no longer erected all year round, he carries a large jug - the Bad Cannstatt coat of arms.
Grocer's market
Together with the spring festival, a grocer's market takes place on the Cannstatter Wasen.
Almhüttendorf
