The Stuttgarter Hofbräu is a brewery in Stuttgart and belongs to the Radeberger Group .

history

In 1591 it was mentioned in the will of Count Eitel Friedrich von Hohenzollern-Hechingen that the monks of the St. Luzen monastery near Hechingen could have beer because of their work. In 1608 these monks delivered beer to the royal court for the first time. In 1872 the St. Luzen brewery and the Englischer Garten brewery in Stuttgart were merged under the name Württembergisch-Hohenzollersche Brewery Society. From September 10, 1883, this was the official supplier of the Württemberg royal court , and King Karl von Württemberg awarded it the title of “ court supplier ”. The company logo therefore shows the coat of arms of Württemberg , and this princely connection still gives entitlement to further use the prefix Hof in the company name. In 1933 the name was changed to Stuttgarter Hofbräu .

In 1981 beer output exceeded a million hectoliters for the first time . In 2002, Stuttgarter Hofbräu stopped producing its previous wheat beers and introduced four types of wheat beer under the name Malteser Weissbier , which are produced under license from the Bischofshof brewery from Regensburg.

On January 1, 2004, the Radeberger Group , a division of the Oetker Group , took over 49 percent of the shares. Since January 1, 2010, Stuttgarter Hofbräu has been part of the Radeberger Gruppe KG.
