The Fürstenberg Brewery is part of the Paulaner Brewery Group , until 2004 the company was owned by the German Fürstenberg family . The brewery brews Pils , Export , wheat beer and other types of beer in Donaueschingen . In addition to catering, Fürstenberg also supplies wholesalers and retailers, primarily in southern Germany.

history

The counts (later princes) zu Fürstenberg had the brewing privilege since 1283 . The construction of a larger brewery began in the 18th century when Anton Egon Fürst zu Fürstenberg laid the foundation stone for a larger brewery at the current location of the brewery in Donaueschingen.

The princely beer from Donaueschingen was soon being drunk outside of the principality. With the first railways, beer was already being delivered over long distances in the 19th century. The brewery was thus one of the first mail order breweries in Germany. In 1895 the brewery began - again as one of the first in Germany - to produce “Pilsener Brauart” beers . The Fürstenberg-Pilsener was raised in 1900 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. To the "table drink of his majesty".

The Fürstenberg beers became internationally known through contracts with transport and tour operators. At the beginning of the 20th century, the ships of Hapag and Norddeutscher Lloyd had the Fürstenberg-Pilsener on board. Other customers were Mitropa , Lufthansa and the Zeppelin shipping company. Since the 1960s, the brewery bought several other breweries and shut them down a few years later, such as Bilger in Gottmadingen (one of the four largest in southern Baden) and Riegeler in Riegel am Kaiserstuhl , with the production of Riegeler beer being relocated to Donaueschingen . The brewery has belonged to Brau Holding International AG (today: Paulaner Brewery Group ) since 2005 .

Today's brewery is one of the largest breweries in Germany and is the first brewery to be awarded the quality certificate in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 and environmental certification in accordance with the eco-audit regulation by DQS .

The Fürstlich Fürstenbergische Brauerei KG achieved sales of 700,000 hectoliters of beer in 2003 and achieved an annual turnover of 57 million euros with around 290 employees. For the 725th anniversary of the granting of brewing rights to the Fürstenberg family, the “Edelbräu” (Pilsener brewing style) was brought onto the market.

Fürstenberg is particularly involved in regional cultural events such as the Fasnet . For this purpose, the bottles of various products are marketed as "carnival beer" . The design of the label changes every year, with a carnival figure from two fool's guilds in the region. The figures are supplemented by announcements of the dates of fools' meetings of the guilds shown, which take place in the respective carnival season. Fürstenberg usually acts as the main sponsor and exclusive beer supplier at these events. The bottle design and its two fools' guilds are supported by various communication measures such as B. advertising material presented.
