Auerbräu Rosenheim

history

The company's history began in 1887 with the acquisition of a piece of land near the Rosenheim train station by Johann Auer. After purchasing the older Saubräu in 1888 and opting for the courting capercaillie as a symbol, brewing began on September 17, 1889. By 1914 the annual output could be increased to 36,000 hectoliters .

After Auerbräu had taken over a few smaller breweries in Rosenheim and the surrounding area from 1913, on March 2, 1923, Auerbräu merged with Munich-based Paulaner-Salvator-Thomasbräu AG and the shoe brewery from Bad Aibling , the castle brewery in Brannenburg and the castle brewery Vagen founded. By 1929 the AG was able to increase its output to 70,000 hectoliters, but as a result of the global economic crisis this fell again to 40,000 hectoliters by 1933. The 70,000 mark was not reached again until 1939.

During the Second World War , the output could even be increased to 82,000 hectoliters, although numerous employees had been drafted. A bomb attack in 1945 destroyed large parts of the production facility. After the reconstruction, the brewery was able to establish itself successfully on the market from the mid-1950s. The beer output was above the average for both Bavarian and German breweries.

In 1984 Paulaner-Salvator-Thomasbräu AG took over the majority of the shares. From 1986, the paragraph has been strengthened on to increase private label set. Thanks to the investment made in 1991 in a new filling system that fills 30,000 bottles per hour, a new record output of 316,000 hectoliters was achieved in 1992. As further modernization measures, investments were made in 1995 in own yeast cultivation and in 1996 a deep-water well was put into operation.

Chiemseer

The Chiemgauer Brauhaus GmbH, which sells Chiemseer beer, is also part of the brewery. In a dispute over the brand name, the Munich Higher Regional Court gave the plaintiff's headquarters to combat unfair competition right and decided that the beer may no longer be sold as Chiemseer because the brewing location Rosenheim is not on the Chiemsee . The brewery reserves the right to appeal to the Federal Court of Justice as the next instance .

The beer has been delivered with new labels since the beginning of June 2016. The name Chiemseer remained, but with the subtitle Gebraut in Rosenheim am Inn and the note to note the reverse. This refers to the location of Rosenheim between Wendelstein and Chiemsee .

In addition, the bottles in beverage crates were equipped with tags that also show the location of Rosenheim and the following explanation: “Our beer is brewed in Rosenheim. Rosenheim is located in the beautiful region between Chiemsee and Wendelstein. As Upper Bavaria we thought that was well known. It is of course possible that we were wrong about this. That's why we're now printing a card on the back of the bottle. We have also renamed ourselves the Rosenheimer Specialty Brewery. If you are still unsure about the beautiful corner of the world our beer comes from, just visit us in Rosenheim. We look forward to you.
