Stuttgart New Secession

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stuttgarter Neue Sezession is an association of young Stuttgart artists founded in 1929. Its first board member, Manfred Pahl, opened the artist community's exhibition debut on August 20, 1929 in the building of the Württemberg Art Association. The group existed until it was forcibly dissolved by the National Socialists in 1933.

history

The young artists in Stuttgart , who had either just left the Stuttgart Art Academy or were still studying, looked for ways to send exhibitions in the 1920s. The Stuttgart Secession , which was only founded in Stuttgart in 1923, offered the young painters insufficient opportunities to present their work.

The artist's idea arose out of the legitimate feeling that they were being disadvantaged compared to the established artists who had already made a name for themselves in Stuttgart. Spurred on by the success of the jury-free art exhibition in Berlin , which had been promoting young artistic talent with great success for years through the painter Hermann Sandkuhl , the Stuttgart artists decided to found the Stuttgart New Secession in 1928 . Founding members were the artists Wilhelm Geyer , Manfred Henninger , Manfred Pahl , Alfred G. Lehmann and Gustav Schopf .

Exhibitions

From the first exhibition in 1929 to the forced dissolution due to the synchronization with the Reich Association of Fine Artists by the National Socialists after they came to power, the artist group held 3 exhibitions. The group had grown to a total of 17 artists by 1932.

The exhibitions of the Stuttgart New Secession in 1929 and 1931 were shown in the rooms of the Württembergischer Kunstverein in Stuttgart , as well as in the Kunstverein Heilbronn and in Ulm . In 1930 the presentation in Stuttgart was canceled. However, this took place at the invitation of Hermann Sandkuhl in the House of Jury Free in Berlin on the occasion of the Free Art Show.

The members are characterized by the fact that they can all be assigned to the art of expressive realism . In addition to the founding members, the artists Robert Breitwieser , Franz Frank , Richard Hohly , Immanuel Knayer , Joseph Kneer , Rudolf Müller, Carl Pflüger , Georg Alfred Stockburger , Sepp Vees , Heinrich Wägenbaur and Alfred Wais should be mentioned, who are largely the face of this artists' association have helped shape.
