SuS 08 Krefeld (officially: Verein für Spiel und Sport 08 Krefeld eV ) is a sports club from Krefeld . The first soccer team played for a year in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.
history
The club was founded in 1908 as the Crefelder Spielverein . Four years later, this merged with the Fischelner Spielverein to Spiel und Sport 08 Crefeld . In 1919 VfR Crefeld joined the club, which in 1925 changed the spelling of the place name in Krefeld. From 1941 to 1945 made games and sports together with the Krefeld sports fans the wargame community KSG Sportfreunde / games and sports Krefeld . In 1946 the two clubs merged to form the Verein der Sportfreunde 08 Krefeld , before the current name was adopted in 1952.
In the early 1930s, the club played briefly in the second division. In 1946, the Krefelder qualified for the then first-class district league Linker Niederrhein , from which the team was relegated as bottom of the table. In 1950 it went down to the district class. It was not until nine years later that the Krefelders were promoted to the district class before the team made it to the Lower Rhine regional league in 1961 . There SuS came fifth in 1965 and even fourth a year later. As a knocked-down bottom in the table, it went back down to the district class in 1967.
After many years in the lower divisions, the Krefeld team succeeded in re-advancing to the Lower Rhine regional league in 1993. After just two years, he was relegated to the district league, before SuS 08 fell into the district league B. In 2006 they returned to the district league A, before the Krefeld team returned to the district league four years later and immediately became runner-up behind VSF Amern . But as early as 2013, SuS 08 was relegated from the district league and was passed through to the district league B in the following season. The club managed to qualify as the lowest-class club for the first round of the Niederrhein Cup 2018/19. The opponent there is the upper division SSVg Velbert .
