SuS Herzogenrath (officially: Spiel und Sport Herzogenrath 1919 eV ) is a sports club from Herzogenrath in the Aachen region . The first soccer team played for three years in the highest amateur league in the Middle Rhine region.

history

The association was founded in 1919. In 1948 the first team rose to the district class. Five years later he was promoted to the state league , which was the highest amateur league on the Middle Rhine at the time. There, the Herzogenrather immediately finished third behind SV Baesweiler 09 and Alemannia Lendersdorf and were able to beat Germania Kirchberg 14-0 in the following season 1954/55 . A year later, the team failed to qualify for the newly created Mittelrhein Association as ninth in the table . In the following years the team did not get beyond mediocrity in the regional league and in 1961 was relegated to the district class.

After many years in the lower divisions, the club was able to return to the national league in 1974, before relegation followed three years later. A few years later, the team was able to rise again to the national league and establish themselves there in the midfield in the 1980s, before relegation followed in 1988. The fourth promotion to the national league came in 1999. The 2000s brought a steep decline. In 2003, the team was relegated from the national league and was passed down in the following 2003/04 district league season. After the club did not provide a first team in the 2004/05 season, the Herzogenrather began a new beginning in 2005 in the district league B, where the club still plays today.
