SEPTA Subway – Surface Trolley Lines , or Subway – Surface Lines for short (literally: Underground – Surface Trolley Lines ) is the name for the network of underground trams in Philadelphia in the US state of Pennsylvania . There are a total of five tram lines that open up some suburbs and suburbs west of the Schuylkill and run in the inner city area in a tunnel under Market Street. The subway surface lines are operated by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). Their identification color is olive green, the track width is 1581 mm (Pennsylvania track).

The line network corresponds to half an axis network. All lines start in the city center in an underground turning loop that runs around the town hall . From there, the main line runs together with the Market – Frankford Line in a four-track tunnel below Market Street in a westward direction to past 30th Street Station . The trams run on the outer, the underground on the inner pair of tracks. To the west of 30th Street Station, the trains exit the tunnel and the bundle of lines fans out. Line 10 continues on Lancaster Avenue in a north-west direction, the other four lines run to the south-west, partly to beyond the city limits.

There are intermediate stops along the tunnel that are served by the tram lines, but not by the Market – Frankford Line.
