Subway is a hard rock band from Balingen , Baden-Württemberg .

history

The band was founded in 1986 and initially consisted of Pepe Wolthoff (vocals), Bemy Bitzer (guitar), Henry Sauter (keyboard), Dany Beiersdorfer (bass), Tommy Strobel (drums) and Andy Weber (saxophone). In 1990 the Swiss label Pink Seven Music became aware of the hard rock band. The debut Dangerous Games was recorded in Basel and then published in Switzerland.

After around 50 concerts at home and abroad, Subway released their second album, Hold on to Your Dreams , on Phonag Records in Switzerland in 1992 . It was produced by Fernando Garcia ( Victory ). The album reached number 37 in the Swiss charts. Due to the success in Switzerland and concerts in Germany, SUBWAY was able to secure a contract with the newly founded label GSE-Records in Offenbach. Further publications in Germany, Austria, Japan, Korea and Taiwan followed. The band produced a video for the hit single Hear You Cry . This was followed by appearances at open airs (including with Bob Geldof , Jeff Healey , Manfred Mann's Earth Band ), a Germany tour with Axxis and a European tour with Talisman ( Jeff Scott Soto ). End of 1993. Then the saxophonist Andy Weber left the band and was replaced by Boris Matakovic.

In 1994 the album Taste the Difference was recorded in Los Angeles / USA. The producer was Mikey Davis, who had already produced bands like KISS and WASP . During the recordings from January – March 1994 in Los Angeles , an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale shook the city. Dozens of people died and thousands were left homeless. The members survived the earthquake unharmed and dedicated the album to the victims of this natural disaster.

In autumn 1995 singer Peach Stöckli (who continues to work as a producer and songwriter) and drummer Tommy Strobel left the band.

After several years of absence from the German music market, the album Subway was released in 1998 by A&A Music in Switzerland. This was followed by publications in Germany with the record label EboLa Records . and Japan in 2000 under the title Don't look back . With the new singer Francis Soto and the drummer Björn Hodler Subway succeeded in another release. However, the sales figures did not meet the band's high expectations.

Nevertheless, another 20 songs were pre-produced for a planned new album in 2002, which due to differences with the record company should never be released. As a result, Subway broke up in late 2003.

Before that, however, in spring 2000, Subway were on their last tour in Germany with rock bands Asia and Kansas. In the middle of September 2003 the band gave one last concert for their fans in Germany on the occasion of an open air event.

In 2009, singer Francis Soto decided to re-launch Subway with a new line-up. In 2010 the studio album Lola's Themes was released . A tour of Germany with Michael Bormann followed.
