Location of Žužemberk in Slovenia

The Suha krajina ( Drought Mark ) is a landscape in the Dinaric Greater Region in the northeastern part of the Lower Carniola (Dolenjska) with the center in Žužemberk (Seisenberg) in Slovenia . The name is derived from the limestone soil that can hold little water in the upper class.

landscape

To the south the area is bounded by the Malagora ridge . The river Krka rises in Suha krajna near the small village Gradiček .

economy

The Suha krajina is one of the least developed areas in Slovenia; the iron industry and mining, which were still of some importance in the 19th century, declined due to poor transport links. The railway lines from Grosuplje to Novo mesto and to Kočevje bypass the area extensively, and the motorway from Ljubljana to Zagreb also runs past it to the north. The majority of the residents of Suha krajina work in agriculture.
