The Suhrawardīya ( Arabic السهروردية, DMG as-Suhrawardīya ) is a Sufi order ( Tariqa ).

The order is based on the teachings of Diya ad-Din Abu 'n-Najib as-Suhrawardi 1097 - 1168 ضياء الدين أبو الناجب السهروردي. After studying Sharia law in Baghdad , he settled in a place on the Tigris . There he also found a group of disciples ( dervishes ).

The order later gained greater influence under the founder's nephew, Shihab al-Din Abu Hafs' Umar ( 1145 - 1234 ). This was even supported by the caliph and was able to attract Sufis from all over the world who were interested in the teachings of the Suhrawardiyya.

Later the order spread mainly to India , where it further branched into different lines.
