history

The so-called Sukabumi inscription from 804 is the earliest evidence of the ancient Javanese script and language. All previous inscriptions were in Sanskrit . The name of the place comes from Sanskrit and means happy earth ; sukha means "happiness, bliss" and bhumi means "earth". Several small villages in this area operated coffee plantations for the Dutch East India Company at the beginning of the 18th century . Andries de Wilde, a Dutch doctor and coffee and tea farmer, acquired the land in 1815. The Dutch then built the infrastructure such as the train station, power station, mosque and church in the early 20th century.
