Sulamith Wülfing
Sulamith Wülfing (born January 11, 1901 in Elberfeld , † March 20, 1989 in Wuppertal ) was a German artist and illustrator .
life and work
After studying with Otto Schulze junior and Max Bernuth , she founded her own art publishing company, Sulamith Wülfing, later renamed Sulamith Wülfing-Verlag . The encounter with Jiddu Krishnamurti was formative for her. She was married to Otto Schulze jun.
Above all, Wülfing created pencil drawings with delicate watercolors, in which she created a fairy-like and mystical world with angels, flowers, nymphs, dwarfs and giants. She successfully marketed her picture production in her own publishing house as book illustrations, for calendars, postcards and posters. Wülfing also worked as a designer for the series of Rosenthal Christmas plates.
reception
In October 1969, Luise Rinser characterized her as a "poetic Wuppertal [...] who interweaves the floral with the figurative in an Art Nouveau mannerist manner, which, reproduced on millions of postcards, has been sent by soulful people for decades."
