Sulcorebutia tarvitaensis is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The species name goes back to the range of the plants around the town of Tarvita .

description

Sulcorebutia tarvitaensis grows individually and only sprouts after injury with flat spherical bodies. These reach a diameter of up to 4 centimeters (occasionally up to 7 centimeters) and stature heights of up to 2 centimeters. They have a 7 centimeter long beet root, which tapers conically downwards and merges into several fleshy strands. The areoles arranged on cusps are about 1 millimeter wide and 3 to 4 millimeters long. The thin, 18 to 20 radial spines are curved towards the body of the plant, sometimes protruding a little and become 3 to 10 millimeters long. They are black-brown to almost black in color, a little lighter on the foot. The surface of the thorns is smooth.

The roundish and reddish brown colored buds appear at the base of the plant body. The slender funnel-shaped flowers are 35 millimeters long and 30 millimeters in diameter. They are light carmine-red in color and have a few purple parts in the throat.

The fruit is a reddish brown pseudo-berry with a diameter of 5 to 6 millimeters. There are 20 to 25 seeds in the fruit.
