Sulcorebutia trojapampensis is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The species name goes back to the range of the plants north of Troja Pampa in Bolivia .

description

Sulcorebutia trojapampensis grows individually and only sprouts after injury with spherical bodies. These reach a diameter of up to 12 centimeters and heights of up to 10 centimeters. The strong, conical beet root is often divided several times. The epidermis of the light thorny plants is fresh green and that of the dark thorny brownish-violet with many transitions in between. The spirally arranged humps stretch out like a chin under the areole . They are 5 millimeters wide, 3 to 5 millimeters high, 8 to 12 millimeters long and irregularly diamond-shaped at the base. The elongated oval areoles on the top of the cusps are slightly to distinctly raised. They are 4 to 5 millimeters long, 1 to 2 millimeters wide and have little whitish felt. Depending on the age, there are 12 to 30 smooth, protruding thorns , which in older plants can hardly be distinguished into marginal and central spines. The length of the thorns varies greatly between specimens. The longest thorns are 15 to 40 millimeters long, the shorter, downward-pointing thorns 5 to 10 millimeters long.

The reddish buds with greenish or brownish scales appear from lateral to shoulder-near areoles. The short, funnel-shaped to slightly elongated flowers are 35 millimeters in diameter and 25 to 35 millimeters long. The greenish to reddish brown colored pericarpel is covered with more or less triangular, light to dark green scales. The light to dark red flower tube is covered with greenish, fingernail-shaped scales that extend upwards. The outer spatulate petals are bright red to slightly orange in color. The inner, spatulate to lanceolate petals are similarly colored, but sometimes yellow towards the bottom. The stamens, which are evenly distributed over the inside of the receptacle , are 6 to 8 millimeters long. The upper ones are colored yellow to orange and only violet at the foot, the lower ones are completely violet in color. The whitish, slightly violet or greenish colored nectarium is very short and about 1 to 1.5 millimeters long. The free-standing, greenish stylus are about 1.5 millimeters thick and 12 to 15 millimeters long. Five whitish scar rays are usually formed at the level of the uppermost stamens.

The fruit is an olive-green or brown pseudo-berry with a diameter of 5 to 6 millimeters, which is covered with brownish or greenish scales and dries up like a parchment when ripe. The fruit contains an average of 305 seeds. The dark brown seeds are flattened ovoid and 1.1 to 1.2 millimeters long and 0.9 to 1.0 millimeters wide.

Distribution and systematics

Sulcorebutia trojapampensis is distributed in the Bolivian Department of Potosí in the province of Linares north of the town of Troja Pampa at altitudes of 3100 to 3250 meters. The first description was published in 2012 by Willi Gertel and Hansjörg Jucker .
