José María Linares is a province in the eastern part of the Potosí Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The province of José María Linares is one of sixteen provinces in the Department of Potosí. It lies between 19 ° 30 'and 20 ° 16' south latitude and between 64 ° 43 'and 65 ° 53' west longitude . It borders in the north with the province of Cornelio Saavedra , in the northwest with the province Tomás Frías , in the west with the province Antonio Quijarro , in the south with the province Nor Chichas , and in the east with the department Chuquisaca . The province extends for about 120 kilometers in an east-west direction and 85 kilometers in a north-south direction.

The population of the province of José María Linares has decreased slightly over the past two decades:

• 2012 : 49,619 inhabitants (census)

The most important idiom of the province with 80 percent is Quechua , 44 percent of the population speak Spanish . The capital of the province is Puna .

90 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 89 percent live without sanitary facilities. 69 percent of the population work in agriculture, 0.5 percent in mining, 11 percent in industry and 20 percent in services. 88 percent of the population are Catholic, 10 percent Protestant.
