Kestuchi (also: Kestuche ) is a town in the Potosí Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Kestuchi is the second largest town in the canton of Pancochi in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Caiza "D" in the province of José María Linares . The village is located at an altitude of 2948  m on the right bank of the Río Caiza , which flows over the Río Tumusla and the Río San Juan del Oro to the Río Pilcomayo .

geography

Kestuchi lies between the ridges of the Cordillera de Chichas and the Cordillera Central , which rise from the barren plateau of the Bolivian Altiplano . The climate is cool and dry because of the inland location and is characterized by a typical daytime climate, in which the temperature fluctuations between day and night are usually significantly greater than the seasonal fluctuations.

The annual average temperature is 13 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 10 ° C in June / July and a good 15 ° C from November to March (see Vitichi climate diagram). The annual precipitation is only about 400 mm, with a very pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 20 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with about 80 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Kestuchi is 69 kilometers by road south of Potosí , the capital of the department.

From Potosí, the 1,215-kilometer-long asphalt road Ruta 1 leads south to Cuchu Ingenio and then via Tres Cruces to Tarija and Bermejo on the Argentine border. At Cuchu Ingenio a country road branches off to the south, which leads down the Río Caiza past Caiza "D" to Kestuchi and on via Pancochi , Calila and Toropalca to Tumusla .

population

The population of the village has been subject to significant fluctuations over the past two decades:

year Residents source
