Cuchu Ingenio (also: Khuchu Ingenio or Cucho Ingenio ) is a town in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Cuchu Ingenio is the central place of the canton of Cuchu Ingenio and is located in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Caiza "D" in the province of José María Linares . The village is located at an altitude of 3679  m on the left bank of the south-flowing Río Jolun Mayu and in the headwaters of the Río La Lava.

Cuchu Ingenio is located at the southern end of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central . The region's climate is typical of the time of day , with the mean temperature fluctuation during the day being more pronounced than during the course of the seasons.

The annual average temperature of the region is 11 to 12 ° C (see climate diagram Potosí) and fluctuates only marginally between 8 ° C in June and July and 13 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is around 350 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 15 mm, and a wet season from December to February with an average of 65 to 75 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Cuchu Ingenio is 36 kilometers by road south of Potosí , the capital of the department.

From Potosí, the 1,215-kilometer-long asphalt road Ruta 1 leads south to Cuchu Ingenio and then via Tres Cruces to Tarija and Bermejo on the Argentine border. At Belén a country road branches off to the northeast, which reaches the provincial capital Puna after eleven kilometers . In Cuchu Ingenio , the route 14 branches off to the south, which leads via Vitichi , Tumusla and Tupiza to the border town of Villazón .

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Caiza "D" 97.0 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
