George Patrick Ziemann

George Patrick Ziemann (born September 13, 1941 in Pasadena , California - † October 22, 2009 in St. David , Arizona ) was Bishop of Santa Rosa in California .

Life

George Patrick Ziemann, the third of eight children from a family of lawyers and theologians, was ordained a priest on April 29, 1967 in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles . He served as a teacher and later as vice rector of the seminary at Our Lady Queen of Angels High School in the San Fernando Valley .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Obba and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles on 1986 . He was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Los Angeles and later Cardinal, Roger Michael Mahony , on February 23, 1987. Co- consecrators were the two auxiliary bishops John James Ward and Juan Alfredo Arzube .

On July 14, 1992, Pope John Paul II appointed him fourth bishop of the Santa Rosa diocese in California. In 1999 he resigned from office because of a sex and financial scandal.

He died of complications from pancreatic cancer in the Benedictine Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David , Arizona, where he had lived since 2000.
