Chayanta is a province in the northern part of the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
location
The Chayanta Province is one of sixteen provinces in the Potosí Department. It extends between 18 ° 23 'and 19 ° 6' south latitude and between 65 ° 23 'and 66 ° 19' west longitude . It borders in the north with the province of Charcas , in the northwest with the province Rafael Bustillo , in the west with the department Oruro , in the south with the province Tomás Frías , in the southeast with the province Cornelio Saavedra , and in the east with the department Chuquisaca . The province extends for about 125 kilometers in an east-west direction and 100 kilometers in a north-south direction.

The population of Chayanta Province has increased by about a third over the past two decades:

- 2012 : 97,583 inhabitants (census)
The most important idiom of the province with 79 percent is Quechua . 97 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 98 percent live without sanitary facilities. The capital of the province is Colquechaca with 1666 inhabitants. 74 percent of the population work in agriculture, 1 percent in mining, 13 percent in industry and 12 percent in services. ( 2001 )
