Cornelio Saavedra is a province in the northeastern part of the Potosí Department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia . The province is named after Cornelio Saavedra , the president of the first independent Argentine government (" Primera Junta ") in 1810, who was born in the Otuyo district in the municipality of Betanzos .

The province of Cornelio Saavedra is one of sixteen provinces in the Department of Potosí. It lies between 18 ° 57 'and 19 ° 44' south latitude and between 64 ° 48 'and 65 ° 39' west longitude . It borders in the northeast on the department of Chuquisaca , in the north on the province of Chayanta , in the west on the province of Tomás Frías , and in the south and southeast on the province of José María Linares . The province extends for about 95 kilometers in an east-west direction and 105 kilometers in a north-south direction.

80 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 94 percent live without sanitary facilities. 69 percent of the population work in agriculture, 1 percent in mining, 10 percent in industry and 20 percent in services. 89 percent of the population are Catholic, 8 percent Protestant.
