Hans-Peter Feldmann (2006)

Hans-Peter Feldmann (* 1941 in Düsseldorf ) is a German conceptual artist .

Life

Hans-Peter Feldmann grew up in Hilden near Düsseldorf and attended the Helmholtz grammar school there . In the 1960s, Feldmann studied painting at what was then the Linz Art School, now the University of Art and Industrial Design Linz . He has been working conceptually with photography since 1968. He mostly uses everyday, "snapped" pictures, some of which he created himself, some of which he has collected. He puts them together in small series that he edits in notebooks and books. Feldmann has put together a repertoire of everyday things and actions in his oeuvre. Between 1968 and 1974 Feldmann created around 35 “picture books”. Two of these issues were published in 1973 in No. 13 of AQ magazine . In 1980 his 'Telefonbuch' appeared there, which was to be his last artistic work. In 1974 he founded the "Drei Möwen" publishing house. Since 1998 he has also published in "Feldmann-Verlag". Feldmann is a co-founder of the magazine "Ohio, photography like never" (1995–1998) and the magazine "cahiers d'images" together with Celine Duval. Feldmann lives and works in Düsseldorf. In 2010 he was awarded the eighth Hugo Boss Prize . An exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum followed in May 2011.

Works in public space

In 2007 Hans-Peter Feldmann took part in Sculpture.Projects in Münster with the toilet facility on Domplatz . For this purpose, the public toilet on Domplatz was equipped and redesigned with modern bathroom ceramics, colored tiles and two large-format pictures on Feldmann's order - "in close cooperation with a municipal employee".

Feldmann's sculpture David, a replica of Michelangelo 's work of the same name , made of metal and epoxy resin, was located in 2006 on Heinrich-Böll-Platz in Cologne behind the Museum Ludwig . After a stopover in Düsseldorf, Feldmann's copy of Michelangelo's marble work in Florence has been one of the exhibits in the Kant Park in Duisburg since April 2010 . After weather damage, the sculpture was stored in the summer of 2016, and the base was finally broken off in the winter of 2018 because the Lehmbruck Museum, as the owner, "did not want to afford" the financing of a weatherproof restoration.
