Siporo is a town in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Siporo is the central place of the canton Siporo in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Betanzos in the province of Cornelio Saavedra . The village is located at an altitude of 3266 m on one of the tributaries of the Río Pilcomayo .
geography
Siporo is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the western edge of the Cordillera Central . The climate of the region is a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.
The annual temperature of the region is 11 ° C (see climate diagram Potosí), the annual precipitation is 350 mm. The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 8 ° C in June / July and a good 13 ° C from November to March. The monthly precipitation is between less than 10 mm in the months May to September and a good 70 mm in January and February.

Siporo is located at a distance of 58 kilometers by road northeast of Potosí , the capital of the department of the same name.
From Potosí, the asphalted highway Ruta 5 leads 31 kilometers eastwards to Betanzos , from there on in a northeasterly direction via Yotala to Sucre . At the eastern exit of Betanzos, an unpaved country road branches off to the north and, after overcoming several pass heights of up to 3700 m, reaches Siporo after 27 kilometers .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Betanzos 97.8% of the population speak the Quechua language.
