history

The Smržův dvůr farm was first mentioned in writing in 1294. At the beginning of the 14th century, during the colonization of the area, a village laid out as a round was built in a hollow surrounded by hills . The village square, on which there used to be a pond, was built on a small tributary to the Zavadilka. Together with Rumberk and Deštná, Okrouhlý Smržov belonged to the fiefs of the Olomouc bishopric . The village Okrouhlý Smržov belonging to the Rumberg estate was first mentioned in the Olomouc fief book from 1320 to 1325. Later, a Freihof was established in Okrouhlý Smržov , which was first mentioned in 1541 in a deed of gift from the Count of Hardegg to Petr Toul. In the course of time the place was also called Hrubý Smržov and Smržov . At the end of the 16th century Smržov was attached to the Svitavy rule . The place has expanded since the transition from the 18th to the 19th century. The settlement of Luhy was built on the Zavadilka south of Smržov.

After the abolition of patrimonial Smržov formed from 1850 a district of the political community Dešné in the district administration Moravská Třebová . In 1855 the municipality was assigned to the district administration Jevíčko , which was repealed in 1868. During this time, a small row of houses, called Draha, was built east of Smržov on the road to Roubanina . In 1880 the place name was extended to Horní Smržov to distinguish it from the neighboring village in the district administration Boskovice , which was henceforth called Dolní Smržov . In 1900 a village school was inaugurated in Horní Smržov. According to the Munich Agreement , Horní Smržov was on the border with the German Empire from 1938. 1948 Horní Smržov was assigned to the Okres Svitavy together with Deštná . At the beginning of 1961, the communities Deštná and Roubanina were merged to form the municipality Deštná-Roubanina and at the same time assigned to the Okres Blansko . Between 1986 and 1990 Horní Smržov was incorporated into Letovice . On July 1, 1990 Horní Smržov broke away from Letovice and formed its own community for the first time in its history. The Catholic parish is Deštná.
