Together with the northern neighboring town of Žďár , Petrovice is about 500 m above sea level on a plateau. The mountains Kněží hora (585 m) and Šípová (548 m) rise south of the village.
500 m south of the village on the slope of Kněží hora there is a stone Dutch mill from 1848. After its modernization in 1922, it was in operation until 1964 and was converted into a hotel in the 1970s. It is currently used as a guesthouse and restaurant.
The village was first mentioned in 1208. A fortress that stood here was built in 1406 by Vok III. burned down by Holstein . The St. Peter and Paul Church was built in 1733 on the site of a previous building. In 1804 the church was repaired.
