history

Rumberk Castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century. It was the seat of an episcopal fiefdom of the Olomouc bishopric and a Bertold von Rumberg has been handed down since 1274. The town of Rumberk emerged as an economic center in the Zavadilka Valley. The Lords of Rumberg were related to the Ronowers , and it is believed that they immigrated from Saxony. In addition to the town of Rumberg, Letovice Castle probably also belonged to the Rumberg estate. After the fiefdom was divided, the castle lost its importance and went out at the end of the 14th century.

Deštná was first mentioned in a document in 1317. Deštná had a church and a parish since the 15th century. The old church probably stood in the cemetery and was destroyed in the Thirty Years War. The church bell, consecrated in 1408, was preserved, and because of its historical value, it was the only one that was preserved from being melted down for war purposes.

Local division

The municipality Deštná consists of the districts Deštná (Deschna) and Rumberk (Rumberg) , which also form cadastral districts.
