Holštejn (German Holstein , formerly also Hohlstein or Hohlenstein ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located in the Moravian Karst , 11 km east of Blansko and belongs to the Okres Blansko .

The village lies in the valley of the Holstein stream, which also drives two mills ( Zukalův Mlýn and Vaňousův Mlýn ). The Zukalův Mill has been declared a Kraj Monument. An elongated, narrow chain of karst rocks extends west of Holštejn, on which the remains of the eponymous castle Holštejn ( Holstein ) can be found in the south of the village . To the south of the castle ruins, the stream flows into rocks characterized by numerous caves and sinkholes .

In the southern area of Holštejn are quarries Malá and Velká Dohoda operated.

history

The first mention of Holstein comes from the year 1334. Before 1321 it came to the Lords of Holstein , who got their name from the castle of the same name, which they owned until 1437. Holstein was referred to as a town as early as 1430. Between 1535 and 1550 the city became desolate. The present village was built in 1791 on the site of the original manor.

Sports

The karst rocks near the village have been climbing since ancient times. In 2011, Adam Ondra first climbed the Perlorodka route on the rocks, probably the hardest climbing route in the Czech Republic .
